Heatwaves + Health Risk Prediction

Smarter Surveillance. Healthier Lives.

Dharini is a reusable, open-source One Health surveillance platform that integrates clinical, environmental, and genomic surveillance of pathogens, with a primary focus on animal health. It incorporates genomic sequence analysis and decision-support modules to enable pathogen characterisation, epidemiological assessment, early detection, and evidence-based outbreak management.

Priority Threats

Avian influenza

Avian influenza

Primary + secondary data

Field and lab evidence, combined with environmental, ecological and weather data.

Foot-and-mouth disease

Decision support systems

GeoLens shows where wild birds, farms and herds meet — and where risk is rising.

Genomic intelligence

SNP visualisation and genomic prediction reveal which variant is circulating, and where.

Why it matters

Transform surveillance data into evidence-based early signals and insights for disease detection and response.

India is home to one of the world's largest livestock populations, with 535.78 million animals according to the 20th Livestock Census (2019). Diseases that move between animals, birds, people and the environment demand surveillance that is active, timely and traceable.

Yet evidence is often spread across paper registers, lab spreadsheets and disconnected maps. Dharini brings it together, in the spirit of a One Health approach.

  • Fragmented records

Field notes, sample registers and lab results live in different places, making it hard to follow a single sample end to end.

  • Decisions without foresight

Field findings alone can't show which nearby farms, wetlands or herds are likely to be at risk next.

  • Missing context

A positive result means more when you can see where it occurred, what surrounds it and how the pathogen varies.

How Dharini works

Evidence + context = better decisions

Field data shows what is happening. Context shows why. Dharini connects both.

Primary data

01 · GeoLens: geospatial intelligence

See where risks are emerging, and what is driving them

GeoLens layers disease, ecological and farm data on one map, showing where risk is emerging and what is driving it.

02 · Genomic surveillance & prediction

Go beyond detection to understand the pathogen genome

A positive test confirms that a pathogen is present. Genomic analysis reveals how it differs from a reference, which mutations it carries, and how those variants are distributed across samples, locations and time. Dharini brings these genomic insights together in an accessible, interactive view.

  • Mutation visualisation

    Explore genomic variants

Analyse FASTA and FASTQ data through an end-to-end workflow for variant identification, annotation and visualisation, with no command-line expertise required.

  • Genomic intelligence

    Interpret mutations that matter

Move beyond variant lists by examining affected genes, predicted functional effects, mutation impact and protein-level changes to prioritise variants for further investigation.

  • Linked to place and time

Connect genomic change with epidemiological context

Link variants with sample, location and collection-date metadata to compare patterns across populations and explore how mutations are distributed geographically and over time.

Variant view Explore genetic variants across the genome, with context on their location and how they change over time. Location Time Genome Genes Variant analysis

Built for One Health surveillance

For One Health pathogen surveillance initiatives

Dharini supports surveillance initiatives that track priority pathogens across animals, people and the environment.

  • Disease-agnostic by design

Configurable for any priority pathogen, so new diseases, sites and programmes can be added without rebuilding.

  • Clinical & environmental surveillance

Animal samples and environmental samples from water, soil and air, brought together in one evidence base.

  • Focused on One Health pathogens

Built for threats that move between animals, people and the environment, such as avian influenza.
