Vice President – Surgical Technology

Location: Bengaluru

Role Summary

The VP Technology/CTO will lead the end-to-end technology development of a novel robotic-assisted cardiovascular medical device platform. The role will be responsible for translating clinical innovation into a manufacturable, regulatory-compliant, and commercially scalable product by leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across mechanical design, biomedical engineering, robotics, embedded systems, imaging, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership

Define and execute the overall technology roadmap aligned with clinical and business objectives.Lead the architecture and integration of mechanical, robotic, catheter-based, sensing, imaging, and embedded technologies.Drive design decisions balancing innovation, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and scalability.

Product Development

Lead prototype development from proof-of-concept through verification, validation, and design freeze. Oversee miniaturization, precision engineering, and system integration. Ensure robust design controls, risk management, and design documentation.

Engineering Management

Build and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams. Coordinate internal teams and external technology partners. Establish engineering processes, milestones, and quality systems.

Regulatory & Clinical Translation

Work closely with clinical investigators to translate user requirements into engineering specifications. Support preclinical testing, animal studies, human trials, and regulatory submissions. Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601 (where applicable), and relevant CDSCO/FDA/MDR requirements.

Manufacturing & Commercialization

Develop scalable manufacturing strategies and supplier networks. Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost optimization.Support technology transfer to manufacturing.

Intellectual Property

Lead patent strategy with IP counsel.Identify opportunities for new patents and protect core technology.

Strategic Partnerships

Collaborate with research institutions, hospitals, academia, industry partners, and funding agencies. Represent the company in technical reviews, investor meetings, and grant programmes.

Required Qualifications

PhD/MTech/MS/BTech in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Medical Devices, or related disciplines.10–15+ years of experience in complex medical device or robotic system development.Demonstrated experience taking products from concept to commercialization.Strong understanding of precision mechanisms, catheter systems, robotics, sensors, embedded systems, and medical device manufacturing.Experience with regulatory pathways for medical devices.
