Testing Engineer - Characterization, Calibration & Quality Control

Role Overview
We're looking for a Testing Engineer to own the characterization, calibration, and quality control processes for our inertial sensors (IMUs, GNSS modules) and navigation controllers (Syncore series). You'll work closely with the hardware, firmware, and algorithms teams to make sure every unit that ships meets our performance and reliability standards - and to build the test infrastructure that lets us scale that process as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Characterization: Design and run test procedures to characterize sensor and controller performance for IMUs, GNSS modules, and navigation controllers.
- Calibration: Develop, execute, and refine calibration routines to improve sensor accuracy and repeatability.
- Testing: Plan and execute functional, environmental, and stress testing on sensors and navigation controllers across development and production stages.
- Quality Control: Define and implement QC checkpoints across the production process; maintain test records, traceability, and pass/fail criteria for every batch.
- Test Infrastructure: Set up and maintain test benches, fixtures, and automated test scripts to improve throughput and repeatability of testing and calibration.
- Data Analysis: Analyze test data to identify trends, failure modes, and calibration drift; report findings to hardware and algorithms teams to drive design improvements.
- Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of test procedures, calibration coefficients, QC reports, and non-conformance logs.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with firmware, hardware, and algorithms engineers to debug issues surfaced during testing and close the loop on product quality.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
- 0-2 years of experience in testing, calibration, or quality control of electronic/sensor hardware (internships and academic project experience count).
- Working knowledge of sensor fundamentals - IMUs, accelerometers, gyroscopes, GNSS, or similar; understanding of terms like bias, noise density, and scale factor is a plus.
- Familiarity with lab instruments - oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, environmental/temperature chambers, or turntables/rate tables.
- Basic scripting ability (Python/MATLAB) for data logging, analysis, or test automation.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, data-driven approach to problem-solving.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a lab/hardware environment, not just at a desk.
- Good documentation habits and clear communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to calibration of inertial sensors or navigation systems specifically.
- Experience with test automation frameworks or building custom test jigs.
- Familiarity with sensor fusion or navigation concepts
- Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced hardware product environment.
