About the Role

ARTPARK, the AI & Robotics Technology Park at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), is a hub for translational research focused on creating significant social impact. We pioneer solutions by bringing together data scientists, researchers, policymakers, and technology startups

This role offers a unique opportunity to tackle the growing challenge of climate-sensitive infectious diseases in India. ARTPARK actively supports major national initiatives like the National One Health Mission, and collaborates with key partners such as the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, ICMR, state disease control programs, and municipal health departments to build capacity and inform public health policy. You will work alongside leading disease modelling experts, world-class researchers, engineers, and public health professionals in a highly motivated national and international setting.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Data Integration: Integrate and organise health and related data from multiple sources into a form usable by computational models.

  2. Modelling & Analysis: Implement statistical and mathematical approaches, including the use of differential equations, and contribute to developing robust, scalable models.

  3. Communication: Consolidate findings and prepare reports to effectively communicate insights to engineers, public health officials, and policymakers.

  4. Development: Work closely with data and engineering teams to develop data pipelines, data visualisations, and integrate these into a comprehensive dashboard.

  5. Innovation: Research, use, and develop AI-based tools to accelerate model development and improve the equity and accessibility of disease modelling.

  6. Collaboration: Collaborate with other software engineers and researchers to share knowledge, ideas, and promote best practices.

  7. Interdisciplinary Solutions: Cross-pollinate solutions from computer science, dynamical systems, economics, physics, and computational biology to solve complex problems in health and development.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Education: A Master’s or PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, computational biology, or a related quantitative scientific discipline.

  2. Programming Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Python, R, or Julia, with proven experience implementing numerical methods and scientific simulations.

  3. Mathematical Modelling: A solid grasp of how general mathematical models (SD, ABMs) function and comfort with applied and computational mathematics.

  4. Data Handling: Proven experience in handling and analysing large, complex data sets.

  5. Research Acumen: Experience reviewing scientific literature, for instance, in a prior research project in ecology or a related field.

  6. Adaptability: The ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced research environment.

  7. Growth Mindset: A willingness to learn, engage with new challenges, and a demonstrated ability to quickly become proficient with new programming packages, tools, and technologies.

  8. Desired Knowledge: Prior knowledge of computational/statistical methods or epidemiological concepts is highly desirable.
