What is your #Asha4ARTPARK ?
It’s 2020 - the year that will be known as year of COVID19. While there have been incredible advances in Artificial intelligence in terms of human level performance in vision and speech, they have been largely confined to the digital world. But to bring AI & Robotics into the world we naturally inhabit, we need to look at how to enable machines to achieve human level performance, in routine, physical tasks. Currently, even the simple act of picking up a bottle of pills and giving a pill to a patient is extremely challenging for robots.
This is where the cutting edge advances in AI & ML can be brought to bear, endowing robots with the capabilities required to handle such routine mechanical tasks. These robots will then unleash entirely new levels of productivity for our labour force, who can use these sophisticated tools to do a lot more for the same effort. With Avatar Robotics, an individual can even break geographical barriers, remotely operating robots to conduct the tasks he is assigned. A host of new jobs can be created when professionals are enabled to deliver their skills across vast geographical distances using advanced communication technologies.
Just imagine if a nurse in India could take care of elderly people in Japan- without physically being present there! What if, a robotic avatar nurse like Asha can act as an intelligent mediator, converting the nurse’s native Kannada speech into the elderly patient’s Japanese language –not just relaying the message but also replicating the same actions and emotions? This could potentially create jobs in rural India and eliminate the need for migration in search of a better future. Just as the IT & BPO industries provided employment at scale in urban areas, this could revitalize the rural economies – exporting both intellectual and manual skills globally. Aren't the possibilities exciting?
What other applications of AI and Robotics do you foresee for India? What do you hope to see coming out of ARTPARK, to help India become a self-reliant and stable economy with greater quality of living for all?
We invite you to share your thoughts and challenges with us. Also, do let us know if you would like to collaborate on projects in healthcare, education, agriculture, mobility, retail, infrastructure, cybersecurity and more. You can collaborate as industry partner, research partner, startup, investor or even as individual contributor as well.
Your feedback will help us choose the right problems to solve with the right partners. We are creating state-of-the-art experimental facilities including testbeds for autonomous driving, drone skyways with 5G & Wifi6 both in the main IISc campus in Bengaluru and its auxiliary campus in Challekere. We are also creating a state-of-the-art AI compute cluster to enable all the collaborating partners, from academia to industry, benefiting the entire ecosystem. Let's build Aatmanirbhar India together.
